Giving a Second Chance to an Old Friend
We have become die hard Udi product followers ever since we discovered it shortly after it’s release at the Chicago food fair. Soft, fluffy, REAL bread became a staple in our home again. I turned my head away from all the previous companies that were doing their best at creating a near proximity to the white sugary carb goodness and basked in the reliability of Udi.
I have been hearing about Kinnikinnik again. Their brand name surfacing in more and more circles. They were the favored choice, prior to the golden goodness of Udi, but I had not tried it in years. Standing in the grocery aisle of Safeway, staring at the Kinnikinnik donuts desperately fighting the impulse to get their sweet sinful chocolate delights, I decided it was time to give them another chance. I picked up a loaf.
My first thought was ” hmmm new packaging… and ooooo soft!” and I felt hope. I brought it home and immediately put it to the Manitoba Farm Girl test. A simple slice, un-toasted, with butter. Holy Hell if it didn’t pass! Fluffy, firm, non-granular, and a butter outer crust. WOOOT!
So, thumbs up ( once I put the bread down) to Kinnikinnik for once again stepping up their game and bringing amazing goods! Pizza Crusts, donuts and fluffy bread! You have no idea the difference you make in my family’s lives!

Finally!… Strangely…
Is Strangely even a word? My instinct is to type it Strangle-y but that might be just because it’s summer and the kids are out!
CHEX! Yes. I have been hearing on the chatter that CHEX is and has been Gluten free for years and, like Duncan Hines, ONLY available in the states. You can IMAGINE my inner ( maybe outter) SQUEE when I walked into a store and, there it was! Gleaming like a Golden Saint from a Catholic Dias. I swear I heard the Heavenly Host!
I GRABBED up two boxes of each before I even looked at the prices… before I even thought to pull out my camera and slam it up on facebook! I did correct that though, on the fly!
What makes this a strange find? The Location! It wasn’t a health food store, a Safeway or Grocery ( by their true definition) . No, it was ( don’t think less of me) Walmart! in WILLIAM’S LAKE?!
Regardless, I bought it. Paid the approx $5 a piece for 4 boxes and brought home my stash of golden sugary GLUTEN FREE carb cubes. My children love me and I am suddenly eager for good old fashioned Nuts and Bolts. Ahhhhhh…. sodium licks!

The convenience of packaged foods is returning. Brands like Udi, GFGoodie, Celimix, Pamela’s, Kinnikinnik and many others are forging a whole new aisle in the grocery stores. The key word being AISLE!!! These are still treats, prepackaged and part of the 20% area! GF Aisle being 20% of the shopping and 20% of your plate! more
Maggies Breads and the Cariboo!
I was back in to Cariboo Bakery this week picking up the muffins from Maggie's Breads. Warmed up they were nutty and sweet and wonderful!!! * purrs!
Quesnel Safeway adds MORE!
A Kinnikinnick Freezer in the Bakery department! Breads, muffins and PIZZA Shells!!! Add that to the Smoreables, animal crackers, EnerG line and other great stuff and Gluten Free is getting BETTER!
