Deep fried Heaven!
Being wheat intolerant meant that 99% of deep fried goodies were out. No onion rings, chicken wings, deep fried zuchinni or tempura battered veggies (from restaurants). Well, last night we threw out all the rules and WOW, what a meal we had.
Out came the deep fryers and the corn starch based tempura batter. BTW – tempura was originally made with only rice flour! There was and is no need to add wheat flour!!!
We enjoyed deep fried and BATTERED onion rings (awesome), zuchinni (to die for), and mushrooms (hmm, turned soggy really fast, but tasted just like the old Dairy Shack in Oak Lake, Manitoba used to make). We enjoyed salt & pepper breaded chicken wings (no wheat, thank you) that tasted unbelievable with a little plum sauce. The deep fried potato chips were crispy and yummy (once the second fryer was retired).
So cholestral won last night and our taste buds were sated! The smell of cooking oil in the house was worth the awesome goodness that breaded veggies and chicken wings can bring.
BTW – those banana splits were fit for kings. Bananas, strawberries, 3 kinds of ice cream, 3 kinds of sauces, sprinkles, whipped cream . . . oh my waistline!!!!!

Mmmmm… Johnny Cake.
Hey everybody, this is my second post and well I have been forgetting to post lately and well… *YAWN*… Wow that was a surprising ‘well’. Its the end of Spring Break and I was up late some of the nights but never mind about that.
Today my mom gave me a awesome bread, I asked what it was and all my mom said was it is called Johnny Cake or to some people known as Corn Bread. She served it like a square of fudge with butter a Maple Syrup and it was the best bread/cake I have ever had! Then she started telling me that my Grandpa, he always used to have it for a after school snack and when he eats it now he feels like a kid again. I thought it was kind of funny, later this night when I got back from going out with my Grandma there was only 1 piece left of Johnny Cake. I went up to my mom and said, “someone has been eating the Johnny cake!” All she replied with was ” Really? I never noticed,” I kinda knew she was being sarcastic.
Uh oh, its time for me to go to bed now.
Bye.
Recipe Book Challenge
My Challenge initially, is to limit it to 10. The list was easily 15 which attests to the usability of this recipe book. We already use the French White Bread recipe from this book and it is great. I am eager to work through MORE. more

Barley Malt Bad Guys
If you look on the ingredients list of cereals you pick up you know that there are certain No-No’s right off the bat. Wheat, Rye, Flour, and ( for the most part) generic oats. Rice Krispies and Corn Pops should be safe though! WRONG
Barley Malt is a flavor ingredient in not only cereals but also unsuspecting places such as Celestial Seasonings teas. Is it safe? The reader’s digest answer is ‘Maybe?’.
The First Irish Son Speaks
Sneaky Wheat
Since Tha Move I have been less than diligent on the Wheat Free/ Gluten Free regiment. Little things like Rice Krispies have filtered back into our life and onto our plates. Is this a big deal?
This morning I got lost driving my son to school. That is like getting lost in Brooks.
When driving I tend to forget little rules of the road. Like speed limits and turn signals and lane distinctions.
When reading on the computer I get lost in sentences and forget what I read. Articles like ” food is ready” on facebook.
Did I remember my meds this morning for Fibro? Did I eat this morning? Hell, did I go pee before I left?
I don’t remember. Instead my hands shake and my entire body seems to be in a constant hum of agitation. I can’t keep up with a conversation and ‘drift off’ to shiny things like a magpie in a conference room. My to do lists blur and my heart races.
yup. Gluten has an impact. Lord I hope my kids aren’t struggling with the same thing!

What others have to say!
