Off the Wheat Free Wagon
School has fallen to hell in a handbasket.
I have spent two mornings there this week dealing with each of the elder two. Today the whole story started to unfold in it’s nasty dirty entirety.
I have been given both boys a lot of freedoms since we got back from BC. Their behaviour there and once home has been, what I thought, amazing! I was seeing eagerness to do homework, team spirit between them, and a general upbeat energy. I have found out that is NOT happening at school. Both boys have become defiant and belligerant with their teachers. This doesn’t seem like them.. so I started “interigating” in my gentle ways. ( ok, if hauling them individually into the principal’s office is gentle.. i could call it that.)
Their battle with Non-Wheat has fallen apart. They are faced daily with sitting beside kids eating sandwiches, muffins, cinnamon buns etc. Their friends are good sports and willing to share. The boys have been indulging. This is also inpart because.. well. I have dropped the ball in the lunch making department.
I have to confess, I haven’t been to turned on by the foods in my fridge lately myself. Being sick means I am seeking confort foods and an apple isn’t going to do the trick. Or a nice green salad with light dressing for that matter. Soooo… I really can’t blame a seven year old and 12 year old for indulging in wheat products. I have fallen off the wagon twice in as many weeks myself.
The allergy manifests itself in restless sleeping patterns, adhd like attention defecits, and high bounce energy and distract. All of which has been getting them kicked out of class, reprimanded and generally finger slapped for their conduct. Sighs.
I reined them in today.. but I see a huge area that I need to pick up the attention to detail in. Back to Bentos and adding some fun back in our foods.

What others have to say!
